Climbing Mt. Hood

Will set out to climb Mount Hood with his brother Daniel and friend Nick this past weekend. They got up around 3:00 am and arrived at the base of the moutain with all of their gear - ice picks, cramp-ons, skis, nightlamps.

Will remembered everything except for his hiking boots. Poor guy - he ended up climing 6 miles up a mountain in his ski boots. If you know how stiff and non-flexable ski boots are, then you can feel his pain.

The purpose of arriving at the base of the mountain so early in the morning is for a couple of reasons. First of all, the snow is still nice and hard when it is dark without the sun hitting it. This prevents the snow melting and being too soft - which can cause accidents (climbers falling into cravases and snow drifts). The other reason is for the view of the sunrise at the top of the mountain.

I was worried that Will was going to fall into a cravas or something, so like a good fiance/future husband, he made sure to call me several times throughout their trek to assure me that he was safe. Don't worry - the other two guys also had to call their wives as well, so I wasn't the only one who made this request.

Below: Jenni's fear - a cravas. Will - please don't fall in one!

Below: Getting close to the summitt - you can see the line of people following the steep trail to the top. To get a better idea of just how steep this was, see the following picture after this one.

Below: Will's shins and feet were killing him from hiking in his ski boots, so he took a little well-deserved break before having to ski back down to the base.

And back down they go!

Dalynn's Birthday

We went out to eat with Daniel and Dalynn tonight for Dalynn's birthday. She chose the "Amadeus" restaurant - which was a fancy German affair. We were even served "palate cleansers" in between each course. What can I say, the girl has classy taste. Go Dalynn! And happy birthday!

Jenni's Camano Island Bridal Shower

I had my 2nd and final bridal shower. This one I was particularly excited for since it was up on Camano Island where I grew up. There were so many friends that showed up that I have known since I was probably in 3rd grade.

Will and I were so grateful for the generosity of everyone. One funny thing, is that Will kept teasing me about having bridal showers - but once he saw all of the gifts we received he thought they were a good thing! :)

Will's parents came over from Idaho for the shower, and below is a picture of how our dad's spent the afternoon. Looks pretty nice eh? Hehe.

Below is a spread of the food that was prepared for the shower. The yummy cake was made by Sheryl Huff. Karen Wernli hosted the shower at her home. I used to babysit her girls when they were younger.

Above: One of Will and I's favorite gift -a quilt that his mom sewed for us. We love it because it is King size and big enough to snuggle the both of us in it!

Jenni's Portland Bridal Shower

I had my first bridal shower this last weekend! Considering that I have been to my fair share of bridal/baby showers over the years, it was a lot of fun to finally be the one that the shower was for.

Above: Tessha, Dalynn, Jessica (my housemate), and a few other friends from our singles ward

Dalynn, Tessha, Elizabeth, and Dawn (all my bridesmaids) put this shower on for me. It was held at Dalynn's home. We started out with a brunch (some yummy egg quiche that Dalynn made) and then had chocolate cake later on.

I received some really nice gifts from my friends, including a kitchen cannister set, table clothes, some cds, lotion, and of course....lingerie. What bridal shower would be complete without the gift of lingerie?!

Below: It took me a while to figure out how you would wear this one....can you figure it out? Haha!

Above: Believe it or not, but this is superman lingerie. When Will was younger, he used to go around pretending he was Superman in his S-man tshirt. So Tessha bought me this. How fitting! Thanks Tessha! :)

Above: I was very happy that my Mom was able to drive down to Portland (from Camano Island) to come to my shower.

After the shower, we all (Will's family, Will, my Mom, and Me) went out for pizza at Godfather's Pizza. It was pretty good. Will had gone skiing with some of his friends during the bridal shower, and so as you can see from these next pictures he looks quite tired. Poor guy.
