My First Play - A Preston Post

My mom and I took Preston to the high school musical "Bye Bye Birdie" on Friday night. It was originally just going to be my mom and I, but at the last minute I decided to bring Preston with us. I wanted him to feel special and go on a "grown-up" date. I also wanted him to experience a live play.

It took him a while to get used to it - it was hard to figure out that the people on stage weren't just random people talking and singing, but were there to purposely entertain us just like the movies we see on TV. He really liked the singing, and the parts where there was physical comedy. Oh, and he loved to clap too when it was the audience's turn to clap.

This play was put on by the high school where I graduated from. I was heavily involved in the drama program when was attending high school, but the program has definitely evolved so much since I'd been there. I was so amazed at the talent, and the level of the play they chose to do (Bye Bye Birdie has a lot of singing and dancing, with a lot of dialogue). I was really impressed. I was also slightly jealous that the high school had a brand new auditorium - it definitely made everything feel much more professional as well.

The woman sitting to my right could not get over how well behaved Preston was during the entire play. I looked around and I think he was the youngest person there. I'm pretty proud of him. He was really a good kid, and so patient too - considering that he was out past his bedtime.

Afterwards we went and got ice cream. It was a great night!
