For all you creative geniuses out there, we could really use your brain right now.
What do you do for an upcoming wedding anniversary involving the following stipulations?:
- It's got to cost under $200
- The wife will be 7 months pregnant and uncomfortable
- The husband has no available vacation time from work (he's saving it for when the baby comes) - so any "overnight" ideas would need to be on a weekend.
All reasonable suggestions will be considered.

Last year, we booked one night at a cabin/bed & breakfast up on Chuckanut Drive (http://www.chuckanutcabins.com/deckhouse.htm). It was only ~$150.
It was a cute place: we had a little kitchen & lovely room with a huge bay window overlooking the sound. From the porch, you can sit in a hot tub (or deck chairs for pregnant folks) and watch the bald eagles soaring while listening to the water. They even had chilled, sparkling cider (instead of champagne) waiting for us when we arrived. We loved it!
Hahaha! Be glad you've at least got $200 to celebrate with. Not that you need all of it to celebrate ;)
Thanks for the idea Michele - I like that they allow you to reserve single night visits too. Most places like that require you to reserve the whole weekend.
Yeah, but the $200 has to include food, hotel, gas, travel - everything. But I am glad we at least have that. We are scrounging from other areas of our budget to make it possible - including our own personal allowances. It is just hard to figure out what to do - last year we sent 3 days at the coast at a B&B, the year before that we rented a ski cabin and skied, and the year before that was Cancun. Its hard to find ways to celebrate that don't involve travelling very far or spending a lot. Even just a hotel room in downtown Seattle would cost $200 just for the room alone.
Go waterskiing. It's fun and cheap. I did it on our 1st anniversay a week before Tessha was born, so it is possible. Just don't try to slalom. You can't hold the tummy straight and the wabble throws you off balance. Don't try to picture it. :-)
Jenni,
Whatever you do I know you will have fun. I would tell you to come to hawaii for your anniversary but i'm afraid $200 might not be enough.
Our first anniversary was spend at James' Grandma's place. Not to romantic but I know James care for me and That is what I'm grateful for. (We did other cooler stuff too.)
Our second Anniversary I took over for but we barely had enough money in our account to go out and eat so that is all that we did, a nice dinner at the spaghetti factory. (Sorry James I wish I could have done more.) Someday I hope to have a really fancy anniversary with a shopping spear and everything. Well, I can dream.
Something you could do is just stay home and buy each other romantic presents. I'm working on our wedding book right now. It's my dream book, I'll send you an e-mail to show you what i mean. Enjoy your anniversary.
Did you actually go waterskiing Sandy? Wow. I admire you, but don't think my body would be in shape to do that - plus I suck at waterskiing. LOL
I think one idea might be to turn your house into a hotel. You can buy flower petals from you local flower shop, and get little tea-light candles, and you can get his fav. meal, and have like a candle light dinner with flower petals, and maybe get some sparkling cider for drinks, in nice glasses. and maybe hire like a friend from the ward to be your waitress, and bring in fancy desserts, and maybe rent a good movie you both enjoy and watch it in bed, and "sleep in" if you can, and maybe get him breakfast in bed, (or that same neighbor friend can come and make it for both of you, knock and leave it outside the door, and you pick it up) and just stay in bed feeding eachother. Make your own Warm bath together, and sit in it together (if it is big enough with your cute belly)or take turns in it, and give eachother a sponge bath, and a little oil massage. Maybe if you slept in a different room in the house you might feel you were on a vacay!! i dunno some ideas!
Wow, those are some great ideas. I'm afraid I've lost my creative flair. I think we usually splurge and get a sitter then grab a quick dinner so we can get back to the kids. How exciting are we?!
What anniversary is it for you guys? Congrtas!! Anniversaries are great!
There's always the Temple. That's free and a great place to be.
Sorry, one more thought about the Temple thing. You might want to take advantage of that one because once the baby comes Luke and I rarely make it to the Temple together. We usually take turns. So, It might be nice to be able to go and take your time and not have to rush off to nurse a child.
Going out to dinner might seem too simple but it's a luxury have you have a baby! So my vote would be to go some place nice (our favorite is Palisades) and if you are able to make a day of celebaration spend the day being tourists downtown Seattle!
How about a Temple session, followed by a nice dinner out and then a movie in the theater. Those are all things we do about once a year together. Kids...sigh! Do anything that will require getting a baby sitter for your anniversary next year, then next year when you are trying to find a sitter and work out the schedule, you will look back and be so glad you did!
150 Dollar Burgers, 2 50 cent Ice Creams, and a Free Foot Massage.
This is Sammy! You guys look great together. Looks like your anniversary is coming up! AWESOME. Hey Will, you guys got any good suggestions on what to do in Cancun? Call us and we'll chit chat. If you don't have my number write back and I'll call ya'll. Tofa
Gosh, ya'll are making me afraid to have this baby - like my life will end and all happiness and adventure will be gone.
I think anniversaries are all about doing something the other would appreciate and that could take on a wide range of activites.
I was dying to paint our kitchen in our new house red so when I woke up to buckets of paint as our first anniversary gift I was way excited. After grabbing great french toast at a local restaurant for breakfast we spent the entire day painting. Some would hate that for an anniversary but because it was something I wanted it was the best ever!
I would suggest seeing if there is anything similar that would mean a lot to either of you.
Thanks Jenn. This would be anniversary number THREE for us. Woohoo! 3 down, Eternity to go.
Well first of all you should save your money for diapers cuz it will take $200.00 just to make it though a couple months and second of all, I really like the idea of the temple thing mixed in with the make your home a hotel thing. Hey if you need to paint it just to make it really feel like a hotel, I'm sure that Mark and Laura would love to do it for you. Plus, your homemade cards were the coolest evA! Good luck
