My First Race

Earlier this year, I promised my main squeeze that I would enter the world of racing and participate in my first 5K by the end of this year.

Of course, I never had any intention of actually running it. Just walking. And that I did.

Meet my friend Noelle.

Noelle and I have known each other since we were in Kindergarten. In the last year, she has lost 50 lbs and is still on her way to her goal weight. Doesn't she look incredible?

She told me that she was going to be doing the Kennewick 5K on October 4th, and I thought "Perfect! I'll come do it with you!"

I have been on my own weightloss quest ever since Preston was born almost 4 months ago. I gained 60 pounds during my pregnancy and have been trying very hard to get it off. I used to be very athletic before having Preston and would workout between 1 and 2 hours a day. But 9 months of a hard pregnancy kind of set me back.

At 4 week post pardum I started meeting Will for lunch and we would walk the trails at the nearby park and even just 1 mile was hard for me. My Csection incision hurt, my back was weak and achey, and my leg muscles were pretty nonexistent after much atrophy during the pregnancy.

But I kept walking every day. Soon 1 mile became easy and I pushed myself to 1.5 miles. Then it became 2.5 miles, then 3...and now I am up to almost 4.5 miles every day while pushing Preston in our jogging stroller. And my walks are not just walks. They are hikes. I climb some serious hillage! (And I've lost about 27 lbs of my 60 so far, so I'm on my way). So walking a 5K was now easy for me.

Without further adeau, it is with complete excitement, that I share with you the photos from my very first 5K. I know, I know...it is nothing compared to what Will does. But aside from the 2nd grade footrace that I won about 24 years ago, it is a triumph for me. :)

Will was so kind to stalk us and take paperazzi photos.

Okay so we finished last, but the point is we finished.

The next day, we travelled into Eastern Oregon to visit my grandparents. It was a lot of fun!

My grandpa was very resistent at holding Preston and I finally just plopped Preston down next to Grandpa and this is what happened.... (see below)

Love it! But my vanity is offended-as the last picture Will took I did not look pregnant! But you did not use it-(why not? LOL :) Alas...I'll get over it! But please send me all the pictures so I can at least post one decent of myself! :) (Now you can't get after me too much because you would feel the same way!)

It was so fun to have you over and have you meet my munchkins-thanks for putting up with all my "worries."

Love your momentarily very vain and silly friend-N :)

Way to go. I have been wanting to do a 5k lately but i keep telling myself I'm pregnant and because i haven't been doing a good job exercising I shouldn't push it while I'm pregnant. I don't usually get so excited about running so I think this craving to run is just that, a craving. hehehe

Congrats on your race and on your weight loss! Every day I get out of bed and think "I'm going to go for a walk today," and I haven't done it yet. You are motivation to me. I haven't even attempted to get on a scale for a few weeks! Yikes!
